re "no friends" chess engine, I've abandoned the tty interface & have converted it into a CECP compatible engine, so now I'm using xboard as a front end
It can actually play a game now, but is still not particularly good, but did beat me one time after I made a lot of blunders, & I didn't feel good

re making my own chess engine, I've barely glanced at chessprogramming.org and feel like I've cheated. realised I want to figure out how to make my own chess engine that can beat me, not just make a chess engine. this feels like an advent of code puzzle
