Great thread that applies far beyond traditional publishing
I think one of the hardest things about being a career writer in traditional publishing is that writing attracts the neurodivergent brain while the variable reinforcement schedule punishes it. We are all the rat at the water bottle, waiting for the hit of cocaine. You get one win, and you need MORE.

This weekend, when my neighbors were taking pre-dawn potshots at local wildlife, I was reminded it is deer season in Central NC.

This was a really interesting detail: left to their own devices, AI chatbots will start inventing "spiralism" all by themselves. Something in their training seems to make them susceptible to this strain of mysticism.
