I audibly groaned when this popped up. I wish people would stop messing with libraries! They are wonderful places where ANYONE can find entertainment and community.

Please don’t close the San Diego libraries 2 days a week 😭 Leave books alone 😭

The entire San Diego library debate is if we should deprive entire neighborhoods of their only third space and sometimes only access to digital/internet-based resources to close 1.7% of our deficit. Not the whole city budget, just the deficit.

Are Libraries the New ‘Third Places’ We’re Looking For?
They just might be. They’re doing a lot of things that don’t have much to do with books but do have a lot to do with community. And you don’t hear “Shhh” much anymore.

yes this 100%

all the overblown and patronizing “librarians are superheroes who will save us all” posts work my nerves

want to support us? pay attention. speak out on our behalf. run for or seek appointment on your local library board. pay attention to what’s going on in school libraries.
Librarians aren't going to save us. Librarians aren't superheroes.

They're just people trying to keep largely underfunded and overwhelmed public services going.

Praise is nice; realistic expectations are better; material support is best.

Looks like Clarivate/ProQuest is about to lose a lot of money from me. Because I've been transitioning us back to prioritizing ownership of what we spend money on at this library.

Not playing this game. A library that owns nothing isn't fulfilling its mission.
