Lots of folks captioning aurora photos like "for a few minutes we didn't think about politics"

guess I'm built different, every time I'm out trying to see night sky stuff I frequently think about how much light pollution is entirely preventable with just a tiny bit of regulation

55 Years Ago This Week: the infamous “exploding whale” happened. But how did it suddenly go viral online in 1990? That story in my blog (with video) from 5 years ago.
The Exploding Whale, 50 Years Later – This is True
The First-Ever Viral Video (naturally of the “weird news” variety!) was shot a half century ago today. Its story + higher resolution video.

Oh. I searched the entire VGHF archive, not just the new CD collection, by accident. But we missed out on Super NES versions of Kaboom! and River Raid?!?!?

These CDs contain the high-resolution artwork that GamePro was sent for their magazine. These are the highest quality source images you can find for games like Banjo-Kazooie and Mega Man Legends (both on CD 120) archive.gamehistory.org/folder/e73a8...

What the hell are we doing?
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

The National Anthem of the U.S. was set to the tune of an entirely different but popular-at-the-time song ("To Anacreon In Heaven"). That makes Weird Al the most quintessentially American singer alive today.

Oh. I thought "the Blip" in the MCU was a reference to the '80s Marvel video game magazine. But apparently that, itself, was a reference to an earlier Marvel monster.

Yesterday I bought a brand new, 43" TV for less than $150 and picked it up and carried it by myself with no problem whatsoever.

#RandomGameSaturday Mario vs. Donkey Kong for Game Boy Advance #GBA. A gift along with a DS from my son some time back. Playing a game in spurts that ramps up the difficulty each level is not the way to go, but here I am. I still need to finish it.
