VERY TIRED OF ENGAGING WITH CULTURES THAT ASSIGN THE HIGHEST STATUS TO THE MOST JADED, CYNICAL, AND PESSIMISTIC VOICES
I had no idea the attrition rate was so high for exotic pets.
congratulations for maintaining a python environment for three weeks longer than the previous record-holder
I made it a month before my python environment became mysteriously fucked.

Before you become an annoying reply guy:

- Yes, I am using uv.
- Yes, I use virtual environments.

Every few months I'll find out that another one of my friends doesn't own a computer and it always blows my mind.

"How? Why?? You make six figures a year, what's stopping you???"

But apparently Real Computers are still nerd shit/a hobbyist thing??
facebook and the iphone filled the internet with people who could not type and did not own a computer and you are basically dodging content that is by and for those people at all times if that stuff isn't for you

Fairly certain that my children will be able to navigate Black Mesa and City 17 at birth, as well as quote CP radio squawks and Dr. Breen speeches. How, you ask? Epigenetics.

Slowly becoming consumed by the idea that the biggest problem in consumer software is UI/UX

(unfortunately also the part I hate doing the most ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

@anyaustin.bsky.social - got any new music in the works? I finally got around to checking out 7 Songs earlier this week and it's been on loop ever since🙏

I think I find the instant knowledge aspect of AI more addictive (in the same way Wikipedia was addictive in high school) than the sycophantic approval

smdh we got search engines with a sense of propriety before GTA 6

My knowledge of the process is admittedly more abstract than technical, but is there no hope for discernment? Find the RLHF version of Heinlein's Fair Witnesses (eg ppl who genuinely do appreciate honest, even-handed responses/a willingness to push back/abhor sycophancy/etc)
i legitimately cannot see as a matter of design how to go from where we are to non-asskissing LLMs. it's fundamental to how finetuning data is sourced: people rank ass-kissing data higher.

Can't quote or reply, so: screenshot

I can believe this is true, but it occurs to me "49% of web traffic is bots" != "49% of content you interact with is produced by bots"

Overall There Was A Desire To Replay Alien: Isolation
I feel like this encapsulates the flaw in Alien: Romulus - a great sci-fi movie doesn't feel the need to explain what a "heat signature" is. It assumes the audience knows or is intelligent enough to figure it out.

Haven't finished it yet, so I don't have a final opinion tho

I think we should be patient with the boomer resist libs instead of ridiculing them

what do you really gain by alienating someone who's on your side, just a decade or two out of date?

Man, this music and narration is straight out of Nerf Arena Blast

Many humans have rather small context windows, so conflations like this pop up all the time. What can you do? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Not loving the fact that I am seeing a lot of posts claiming that ICE/LAPD learned their violence from the IDF. No, really, you don't have to blame The Jews for homegrown violence, I promise.

Identity is in the edges. It's where the unknowable core of your being brushes against The Other + The Outside and learns its own boundaries.

(the latter, basically)
How do you define identity? Do you go deeper within yourself for a definition or do you interact more with the world to find what you react well to and what you don’t? Curious about other people’s thoughts :)

My pet theory is that Ed is actually just technologically cursed. He is the way he is b/c interacting with technology has genuinely always been a frustrating nightmare in ways the rest of us simply don't experience.

In your opinion, is AI art closer to forgery or pastiche? Perhaps something new in between?

Real. Following the @concept.country gang turned my BlueSky experience from "as pleasant as being trapped in a swarm of angry wasps" to "not only more fun than X, but I'm inspired to work on creative projects of my own again."

Feels like 2004-2014 era internet again 🥹

Highly recommend!
... activism collective, I was in.

Since then I've watched some phenomenally intelligent people build a movement, sell out an awesome Zine, discuss memetics, plan and execute operations and in general form an awesome community of technoprogressive biocosmists on BlueSky.

and it's growing!

How does the admin not see this is a first-order effect of the policy? It's zero-sum: more highly intelligent people in China, fewer in America.

Sure, some graduates may return to China. Some that stay may be more loyal to their home country (I think this is the fear?) Still a good tradeoff for us.
The Trump administration’s pledge to revoke the student visas of Chinese students could inadvertently be a boon for China, which has long been eager to woo back top talent to advance its tech and AI sectors.

At last! The high-level overview of what Ai is and how we got where we are that we've all been waiting for!
I couldn't find a high-level overview of what AI is and how we got where we are, so I wrote one. www.verysane.ai/p/what-is-ai
What Is AI?
This is an important question because AI is, currently, important.

ain't nuthin' but a "g" thang, baby

is I think the underlying dysfunction there
Really, like… the concept of expertise is lib coded at this point. The 2025 American conservative view of knowledge appears to be that there are instinctual polymath common sense All Things Knowers and egghead specialists who pretend to know things but can easily be surpassed by Donald, Elon, etc.

😭😭😭

This is so adorable and also so terribly sad; there should be pets in every prison. I can't imagine going so long without cuddling a furry thing.
