I think there’s a big difference between “all hope is lost” and “I have lost hope” and in climate it is really important to distinguish between the two. My personal feelings, your personal feelings are not the limits of our collective politics.

I think one of the reasons there’s so much cognitive dissonance on the right about Epstein, child sex trafficking, and their own heroes is that they don’t think of the victims as real people. They view the abuse as an intangible evil but when real victims come forward they ignore and deny them

I’m a K-5 art teacher, and I’m constantly emphasizing to my kiddos how important and true and beautiful it is to see brush strokes and dents and mistakes because it shows that a human being made this thing. They’ve taken to calling out all kinds of human things as showing “the hand of the artist.”

i have argued before that MAGA is recapitulating antebellum pro-slavery ideas about citizenship and bodily autonomy. one thing i am also thinking about, when it comes to the rendition of people to a foreign gulag, is the way it is reminiscent of the kidnapping of free blacks for sale into slavery

About fifty years ago, NASA strapped a message in a bottle to a rocket and flung it into the deep dark
It wasn’t supposed to go this far, but it did. Long past its mission, it’s still out there so far away now that a simple hello takes a day to reach it, and another day to hear if it says hello back

I will again point out that like "state's rights", "parent's rights" are not a thing.

Parents have authorities, not rights, when it comes to their children (and those authorities can be revoked).

Children have rights. Not parents.

Instead, voting is closer to a marker, an exchange of power that can be called in or revoked based on the conduct of the recipient. A vote is consent, and as consent can be renegotiated or denied at any time — if you pay attention between elections! But the consumption model wrecks this.

The attacks you’re seeing on the Harris and Walz families from the online right are reflective of a different ideological orientation towards family as mere objects that are meant to reflect the greatness of the husband and father, not people with their own lives and emotions.

This is a watershed day for survivors.

The reason swatting is effective as a domestic terrorism tactic is because it assumes — correctly — that the police who respond to an anonymous call are likely to immediately resort to extreme violence if something goes wrong or wires get crossed or whatever.
