Intensity is on the rise at the #LHC 💫

The Large Hadron Collider propelled particle bunches containing more than 230 billion protons (2.3 x 10^11): 40% more than usual. These bunches generated an average of 150 collisions, compared to around 65 collisions during normal operations.

This #CMSpaper looks again at a non-significant (but intriguing!) excess in signatures consistent with two unstable, unknown particles from a heavier source. This paper further compares to theory predictions explaining these four-jet events

While searching for additional Higgs bosons, the @cmsexperiment.bsky.social may have instead uncovered evidence for the smallest composite particle yet observed in nature – a “quasi-bound” hadron commonly called toponium.

The COSINE-100 experiment in South Korea achieved an improved energy threshold of 0.7 keV in their NaI(Tl) crystals and now fully excludes the DAMA/LIBRA signal as originating from dark matter interactions: arxiv.org/abs/2501.13665

The ANAIS-112 experiment is Spain also presented new results with six years of data in their NaI(Tl) detectors - the data is incompatible with the DAMA/LIBRA dark matter interpretation at 4-sigma confidence level: arxiv.org/abs/2502.01542
