Trying to kill a 30-year running longitudinal study is fucking arson.
Well the NIH has cancelled the Women's Health Initiative, the largest study of women in history

It has been running continuously since 1991 and has provided massive key knowledge about diseases in women

Unreal

This makes me sad. Was just randomly remembering this offhand car stunt from Way Of The Gun this morning, and marvelling at how quietly talented and hard-working Nicky always seemed to be. youtube.com/clip/UgkxR0f...

@angeloslh.bsky.social worked so hard on these, awesome to see her work getting the recognition it deserves. So many screens with so many different styles, so many iterations with close collaboration between us, so much mspaint violence (rough mockups are faster than words) from me she tolerated

In the spirit of the Amazing Things Found While Visiting Relatives threads of yore:

Spotted these on the free shelf of the retirement community we're visiting. TFW you've stumbled into the beating heart of someone else's *remarkably* specific kink.

Aseprite a tool from a parallel universe where pixelart is somehow worth more than anything Photoshop can create. I would have killed for it during Jamestown's development!

My final UU Library update has been made on LEGO Ideas! Part count is down, a Terry Pratchett Minifigure added and the bookcase now includes the Terry Pratchett Discworld series! It only needs around 350 supporters so please do what you can!

Nearly every artist of my generation I know was influenced by this man. He created creators. That's the highest aspiration and measure of success I can think of for an artist. RIP sir. 🙏

This thread is a feast.
For the last time and maybe the first time on bluesky, I'm going to make a big thread about the Quarantrain because it's time to take it down. It's sitting unused, taking up space. Building it was a childhood dream and I got it out of my system. I'm proud of it and want the memory to remain. (1/?)

Something very much on my mind while watching it was how we deserve well-made stories like this from franchises. We don't have to pretend crap that feels like it came out of an MBA & marketing orgy that was fed through an ai chat is somehow good just because it looks like something we used to love.
Rewatched Andor: it's a good rewatch, lots of new stuff to catch and meaningful stuff if you know what's going to happen.

I'll say again you don't have to know much about Star Wars to get into it: there's a galactic fascist Empire, etc. It's well-crafted, -acted & -written; so very worth a try.

If I ever teach a semiotics course, we're definitely going to spend some time on the iconography smoothies coming from our friends the Semi-Militarized-Outdoorsmen.

Like... what are we doing, here? Do symbols... "bear meaning"?
