2023.
Live service keeps killing modestly successful multiplayer games, and it doesn't have to be this way
It's time to buy videogames again.

Helldivers added these mean mega tanks that you gotta shoot where the sun don't shine

you can smell it in the air: it is no longer fashionable to dislike Overwatch for vague reasons

"Cosmetics aren't just the stuff games sell so that it can keep making cooler, gameplay-relevant stuff for free anymore, they're the primary focus. Arrowhead is doing the total opposite with Helldivers 2." www.pcgamer.com/games/third-...
Nobody is doing live service better than Helldivers 2 because Arrowhead makes expansions, not just updates
Two years later, Helldivers 2 is still demonstrating why it was a sensation.

i don't think the leagues should act like they're in competition to one another but if we were going to pick at that bone i think a more relevant data point is that the fall classic last year was an all-timer knock-down 7 game brawler and the super bowl we just watched was a prolonged wet fart
Your annual MLB vs NFL parity report

I can't tell if people are pretending their real-life walk has no vertical movement, their brains are good at making them believe they don't, or if some humans have chicken-stabilized necks.
I wrote about headbob: a feature of first-person games that we rarely acknowledge, but is suuuuuper important to believing we're looking through a person's eyes.

Case in point: This game doesn't have it, and it's driving me up the wallllllllllll www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/i-...
I didn't realize how important headbob was until I played an RPG without it
A tiny design choice is spoiling an otherwise good game.

The D&D movie was good enough for me to think this could rock, but then there's the whole Mazin of it all. That LOU show is pretty bad more often than it's good huh
A Baldur's Gate HBO series is in the works from Craig Mazin, co-creator of HBO's Last of Us show. Deadline reports that it'll be set directly after the events of Baldur's Gate 3, with new and returning characters.

"That's a great question: What would I change if I could go back? Probably not call it Overwatch 2." — Overwatch general manager Walter Kong at the recent press event.
"Overwatch 2" was the vision of a director who left Blizzard five years ago, and it never actually came to fruition, so dropping the 2 makes perfect sense (only surprise is that it took this long to happen)

I love it
I feel like no one is talking about Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and it's very, very good. Dunk and Egg are a god damn delight. Love these two goobers, and it's refreshing watching a Game of Thrones show with a much narrower scope.
