But Newsom calling for his followers to "continue Charlie Kirk's work," someone who praised stoning gay people as "god's perfect law," who called for men to "take care of" trans people like they did in the 50s and 60s, is not it.

FWIW I think Sydney is (as usual) correct that this is the thing that would make the IOC do something (not violating the fairness and inclusion framework). If I were a sports editor (AHEM I know some of you follow me) I'd commission a piece from her on this. She's the perfect person to write this.
