So excited to be able to announce this new organization, and honored to play a part in leading it along with our great Board and members.

We're going to build this into one of the most active voices fighting inequality in Canada. So give it a follow and check out our story in the CBC!
Perhaps the government should wonder whether the largest tech company in the country actually wants innovation, growth, and entrepreneurship? Or whether they’d just like to stay on top of the pile and line their own pockets?
We’re not going to build an economy that lifts working Canadians, protects our democracy, and sustains our growth if the government’s tax strategy is:

“Whatever big tech wants”

"Canada should not race the U.S. to the bottom with tax credits, but position ourselves as the country where talent can take risks, where families experience genuine long-term security, and where investors know domestic demand will be stable and growing. That is our competitive advantage."
Straight from the mouth of founder and investor @floydmarinescu.bsky.social:

Corporate are not what motivates investment or entrepreneurship, they undermine the things that do, and historically have never worked.

So why try and tax credit our way to prosperity?

Why Canada’s proposed corporate tax relief is not the answer
Tax cuts are not what motivates investors or entrepreneurs, they’re not what creates jobs, and they undermine the things that do.

We could literally keep all the US passenger flights running if we just made billionaires fly commercial.

I hear the first class cabins are perfectly adequate!
Private planes make up nearly 12% of all flights.

And yet even with major air traffic control safety concerns, the DOT is planning to exclude them from its plan to order 10% cut in flights at 40 major U.S. airports.

People who can afford to charter flights will be fine. Everyone else is screwed.

It's time for the wealthy to ask themselves: Do they want to be rich people in a poor country?

Or do they want to be rich in a country with great healthcare, education, and infrastructure where everyone has economic security and the opportunity to thrive?

If it's the latter, they should join us!
We're not any more altruistic than the next person. We want less inequality because we know our families will be better off in a society with less inequality.

We're greedy for a different kind of country—one where all people have the ability to thrive, succeed, and have their voices heard.

Our tax code values money over sweat.

It values already being rich over earning a paycheck.

It values unproductive and even extractive investment more than actually working for a living.

Until that changes, the tax code will guarantee wealth inequality in this country grows.
The wealthiest Canadians pay lower tax rates than what the average worker pays.

Why? Because our tax system taxes employment income at a higher rate than passive investment income.

Through 5,000 years of human history, the same cycle repeats: Elites extract huge amounts of wealth and power, a small oligarchy makes poor decisions in their own short term self interest, and what's left of society collapses.

Can we learn from those mistakes?

It is hard to understand how our federal and provincial governments could have gotten the tax code so wrong. The workers that actually build this country are taxed on 100% of their income. Meanwhile, the wealthy enjoy a smorgasbord of tax breaks. Great article Avi.

Does Canada want to be a leader in reducing inequality? In fighting tax evasion?

Or does it want to slip further into oligarchy?

If the former, it should be joining this SPA at #FFD4

Hugely disappointing to see the Government cave on this.

I wouldn't call it "Elbows up" to allow giant American corporations to keep extracting profit from Canada without paying tax.
