Hello Bluesky!

We're Patriotic Millionaires Canada, a new group of wealthy Canadians who believe inequality is hurting our economy and democracy, and we should use the tax code to do something about it.

Our current tax code guarantees that the chasm between the uber rich and every one else will just keep growing (and keep growing faster).

When wealth and power get to top heavy, societies tend to collapse.

Effective taxes on extreme wealth are how we defend our economy and democracy.
The average family family in the top 0.01% had 4,041x the wealth of the average family in the bottom 50%.

86 billionaire families held as much wealth as the 6.2 million least wealthy families.

We need policy action—including a wealth tax—to rein in the economic & political power of the super-rich.

Our friends @c4tf.bsky.social have a new report examining the true levels of wealth inequality in Canada, and it's impact on our democracy.

One shocking stat: billionaire wealth grew 37.2% between 2023 and 2025 while total household wealth only grew 9.3%.

“Extreme wealth inequality is too often treated as an inevitability — it’s not.

It’s a policy choice, and one that our federal government continues to make every day that our tax code remains the same.”-Emma Davis writes with @oxfamcanada.bsky.social’s Lauren Ravon

The rich in Canada are, indeed, getting richer. Here are 3 things we can do to fix that
When world leaders, including Prime Minister Mark Carney, descended on Davos, writes the authors, the most pressing economic challenge in the world was not on the agenda — rising inequality.

So many of the big global problems addressed at Davos are symptoms of an ignored one: extreme and ever growing levels of wealth inequality.

Our tax code currently guarantees it will only grow (and grow faster).

But it can be a tool to constrain it, and fund the fixes to its trickle down impacts

If this many wealthy people can see the obvious threat of extreme wealth inequality, what's holding up our governments from acting?

We had questions.

Are most wealthy people more like us than the tax whiners you see in the news?

Do they realize how dangerous wealth inequality is to democracy?

So we asked nearly 4,000 of them across every G20 country, and it turns out: yes!
