For those unconcerned with the growing concentration of personal wealth and corporate profits, the budget will be welcome news. For those who have a different concept of what makes a nation and its people strong, united and resilient, it will be received differently.

Carney’s first budget is asking the wrong Canadians to make sacrifices
This budget seems to have a case of mistaken identity. Instead of asking for sacrifices from those able to make them, they are leaning on individuals and sectors already struggling.

An important question at a pivotal moment. Social programs that benefit all of society are coming under increasing pressure. The wealth exists in Canada to support everyone. We just need a tax code that gets the job done.

It's time for the wealthy to ask themselves: Do they want to be rich people in a poor country?
Or do they want to be rich in a country with great healthcare, education, and infrastructure where everyone has economic security and the opportunity to thrive?
If it's the latter, they should join us!
Or do they want to be rich in a country with great healthcare, education, and infrastructure where everyone has economic security and the opportunity to thrive?
If it's the latter, they should join us!
We're not any more altruistic than the next person. We want less inequality because we know our families will be better off in a society with less inequality.
We're greedy for a different kind of country—one where all people have the ability to thrive, succeed, and have their voices heard.

Canada’s wealth gap is way worse than official data show.
The PBO just confirmed the top 1% own nearly 25% of all wealth—which StatsCan missed because it doesn’t even count the richest families in its surveys.

Sending money voluntarily does not solve the problem! Taxes should require those who have profited the most from investments in education, infrastructure, healthcare, etc. to reinvest back into the economy and ensure those services stay well funded.

Meanwhile, PM Carney has an ‘austerity budget’, which will impact the disadvantaged.

Canada's exploding wealth inequality requires tax changes
Our current tax code is not asking the wealthy to reinvest in our economy, and that failure is weakening services and programs working Canadians may use to get ahead.
