My formative experience, which led me to pursue film/tv production as a career, was seeing ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ at the Fox Theater in Portland, OR. It was a magical experience that I remember to this day, over 30 years later. So, this hits me in my soul.

We’re suing because public money belongs to public schools, not private schools that can pick and choose who they serve.

My latest for @msnbc.com: The Trump administration's gutting the special education personnel not only betrays people with disabilities; it rolls back the work of four Republican presidents who passed bills for special education (Nixon, Ford, and the Bushes)

Opinion | Trump's mass firings strike a hammer blow against Americans with disabilities
The GOP once supported special education programs. Recent dismissals at the Education Department put an end to that support.

I know Trump and his minions all have sneering contempt for kids with special needs, but trust me when I say that their parents will absolutely fucking destroy anyone who messes with the special education supports to which they are entitled by law.
There are reports that the *entire* office of special education at the US Dept of Education has been cut. These hardworking folks ensure kids with disabilities get equal access to a quality education.

America’s children deserve better than this.

The people making these decisions do not believe kids with disabilities, like my son, deserve a public education. Just as they believe the Civil Rights Act was a mistake, so too was ADA and IDEA. The goal is not only to limit access but to deny it.

I can tell you from experience, there is no room less impressed with your “energy” than a room full of veteran journalists.
CBS News current president Tom Cibroski praised Weiss on the call, saying "Bari's energy and passion is infectious and you will feel it, big time." He also added that the Free Press and CBS News "are going to learn a lot from each other...that's what this is all about."

-Discuss strategies to increase supports and services for autistic people/families
-Highlight why autistic people and families deserve respect, not pity or fear
-Endorse one speck of autism research that is not dangerous pseudoscience

Jill was that professor for me. She expanded how I thought about art and the world. I have always considered it a privilege to have had the opportunity to learn from her and will always carry her lessons with me. May her memory be a blessing.

An absolutely vital piece providing the history and context of the corporatization of public education. This stuck out to me as something I increasingly see from AP classes:

“They’re more likely to encounter these as decontextualized excerpts in corporate-produced test prep materials.”
Long weekend read: for decades there's been a bipartisan consensus that the purpose of school is workforce preparation. Now the right is abandoning that view. My latest for @thebaffler.com thebaffler.com/outbursts/un...
