Immigrants are essential to the culture, purpose, and sustenance of Tennessee. Our words and stories carry movements.
This #InternationalMigrantsDay, it is crucial that we continue the fight to protect our communities, so we can all continue sharing our words and stories freely and without fear. 🗽

Public schools serve every child—every ability, every background, every need. Private schools don't have to. That's the difference. That's why our lawsuit and the work matters. #PublicFundsforPublicSchools 📚

#FlashbackFriday to a day when showing up mattered.
Two ACLU-TN attorneys were at the hearings on @nilc.org's challenge to the Memphis Natn'l Guard deployment. Our amicus brief helped secure a temp. injunction.
A big win, and work that continues over the holidays, because justice doesn’t clock out.

Immigrants deserve to live safely in Tennessee, LGBTQ+ people deserve the freedom to love who they love and be who they are, and politicians shouldn’t have a say in our healthcare decisions. It’s that simple.

Thank you to Sheryl for headlining the Creatives for Freedom concert benefitting the ACLU and for exercising your free speech rights to fight for our communities.

Today, on Human Rights Day, we continue the work she championed: protecting the dignity and freedom of all Tennesseans.

No troops on our streets — anywhere.

The RuCo Library System wanted to eliminate a policy that protects free sharing of ideas in libraries. Because we showed up, the board didn't move forward with any votes to eliminate the policy. Which means one thing: we must keep the pressure on. 💥

Public money requires public accountability.
Tennessee’s universal voucher law diverts money from public schools and lets voucher-funded private schools dodge accountability standards — that’s why ACLU-TN and our partners filed suit. 💥

What could our public schools do with an extra $272 per student?
📚 Buy 4 new science textbooks
🗣️ Provide 13 hours of 1-1 reading intervention
🎷 Cover a year’s worth of reeds and repairs for a band student
That math ain’t mathing.
Public funds belong in public schools.
