Went for a stroll at Crabtree Nature Center yesterday to take advantage of beautiful warm weather. Mr. CMG collected few new #birds sightings for his list. Beautiful Big Bluestem blowing in wind & glowing in sunshine made me hope ours take off next year & get this tall.🤞 #NativePlants #gardening 🌱

We've had a couple of days of rain here in the Los Angeles area. This morning I found a young Monarch caterpillar (I think second-to-last instar) during a break in the weather. 🐙🌿 #Bugsky

super interesting discovery! while going through and surveying the frost damage from yesterday morning, i discovered two pepper plants who seem wholly unbothered! there were a ton of others near them and elsewhere in the bed that are dead/dying but these two are seemingly completely fine!

If you have a very low-latitude aurora observation from tonight, please record your exact time and rough location and DO NOT DELETE your photo. These observations will be important for scientific research of this event.

So this happened an hour ago. I don’t think I’ve seen red this deep in a long time. You could see it quite clearly with the naked eye. #aurora

After yesterday’s surrender, we’re launching the largest Democratic primary program that we’ve ever run.

We will not back any Senate primary candidate unless they call for Schumer to step down as Minority Leader.

If you’re as pissed as we are, join this campaign to rebuild the Democratic Party. 👇
Democratic leaders have failed us again. It's time to get new leaders.
After yet another capitulation by Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats, it's clear we need new leadership capable of mounting a serious opposition to Trump's authoritarian regime. We're launching our la...

Green Lynx Spider (Peucetia viridans), N Carolina. These spiders are ambush predators that don't catch prey in a web - but look closely and you'll see that she's spun a silk scaffold to help her cling to the leaf (an especially good idea given that she's on a carnivorous pitcher plant). 🐙🌿 #bugsky

Good lord, I am an experienced gardener and even using my entire side yard plus the roof of my garage, I got maybe enough to feed my family of five for a month. I can up a couple dozen quarts of tomatoes, tomatillos, and peppers each year, along with plenty of jam, but it's a small supplement.
On Threads, the usual suspects are telling ppl about to lose SNAP benefits to just start a garden. As a gardener, I had to laugh. You need at LEAST an acre of land to feed a family of 4. Start-up costs are enormous. But yes, subsistence farming on the balcony of your rental apartment is the answer

bottled the 2nd round of pyments last night, ~1/2 gallon of southern belle and blackberry each! i'm surprised at how shifting 25% of the total honey into specialty honey dramatically changed the flavour, but it makes me even more excited for next year

With SNAP/EBT cuts looming I highly recommend downloading this app! Basically restaurants and other food businesses will have available bags of random food they don’t wanna waste for ppl to buy for hella cheap! This has saved me sooooo many times when I only have $5 and need some food.
