The problem with most online discussion about film is that too many people think that the role of films is to make them feel good about how they already think about the world.

People don't want to watch movies to feel things anymore. They want to watch movies to not feel things.

Isn't it weird how nerds go out of their way to misread basic stuff like Padmé's shrugging-off of Anakin's murderous rage being an intentional character flaw while having no issue with Tony Stark teaming up with the US government to dismantle blue-collar construction companies for no good reason

I guess BlueSky wouldn't be the platform that it is without a bunch of libs proclaiming themselves as a resistance movement against the evil reassessment of the Star Wars prequel trilogy

Every filmmaker, showrunner, and video game designer that Big Screen Bobby has covered deserves our gratitude, regardless of the quality of the media they’ve produced. For their capturing of his attention keeps him distracted from the pursuit of public office.
Good thing the degree of public figures who go to bat for Bobert never rises above former-member-of-Channel-Awesome levels

RIP Tatsuya Nakadai

One of the best to ever do it. An expert at being a wild-eyed, haunted weirdo.

Update: He was fired illegally and now we officially have zero income. The phones will be shut off soon and we're both expecting calls from potential jobs over the next couple weeks. I need to make $300 by the end of the week to keep them on. If you can help in any way it is needed. Thank you.

I like how you'll see people write thoughtfully about the film and what it has to say about the world despite its flaws and some malding nerd will just say "no its bad" over and over again and think he's the one who looks substantive.

I'm sorry but these are movies that the internet have declared to be OBJECTIVELY BAD(tm) so you arent allowed to have things like "basic awareness of themes and ideas present in the film"

Sword of Doom is one of Tatsuya Nakadai's best roles. He's such a raw force of magnetism even if he's also an extremely vile man committing morally reprehensible acts of violence. RIP, Tatsuya, you were a real one.

RIP Tatsuya Nakadai. I interviewed and was star struck by him twice. Once was on stage at the Museum of the Moving Image after a screening of the paranoid spy comedy AGE OF ASSASSINS, and once was for @ebertvoices.bsky.social: www.rogerebert.com/interviews/a...

My favorite routine from people who hate the Prequels is when they look at all evidence for what the Prequels are saying and go "Yeah well clearly this wasn't intended so NYAH"

I could make fun of the recent post going around about Padme not caring about the Tusken Raider children being killed but like pretty much all Prequel hate it all boils down to "I can't believe the prequel to a series about a fascist empire had characters say and do things that lead to fascism.
