If you want one advertisement that sums why this planet is burning

Allow me to present, Vodafone with
“New Year, New Phone”

Encouraging its worldwide customers to buy a new phone to replace their nearly new phone is frankly obscene

Even in Papua New Guinea, which the #climatecrisis is drowning

Thousands of women from China, Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia, Australia, Papua New Guinea and East Timor were enslaved and raped in industrial-scale Imperial Japanese military brothels

None of them have received the justice they deserved, and many have already passed away
It's not just vets either. Concentration camp survivors, imprisoned dissidents, refugees, surviving relatives of the war's victims--all of these people would come to staff and influence the postwar world as bureaucrats, politicians, academics, and so on. They're nearly all gone.

We are about to enter an era of extreme and dangerous culture war in the United States. How do we protect our communities and work toward a cultural ceasefire? In this piece I wrote a couple months ago, I offer one possible path. wapo.st/40q1BDn
Opinion | Libraries can help end the culture wars. That’s why they’re under fire.
Nothing threatens authoritarianism like a free, quiet place to absorb a full range of information.
