Trump has chosen his diplomats by the size of their donations. For example the ambassador to Turkey is an ambulance chaser who contributed a million dollars to his campaign.
Since when you have to know anything about anything in the US foreign service? Many ambassadors are political appointees and not career diplomats like in most of other countries.
