Trying to figure out a way to explain to interested non massive dorks why solar gets 8% capacity credit in PJM and what the implications are. It's not an easy one but it's critical to understanding why things are the way they are.

People who complain about the death of local journalism and then don't put their money where their mouth is disappoint me.

Feels like we've really lost the ability to do episodic television where each episode is BOTH a self-contained story with a beginning, middle and end and also advances a larger plot for that season. It's not just a movie in bits.

I grew up vacationing in Klamath country, swimming in these rivers, jumping off rocks, etc. Even from across the country, seeing the return of the salmon runs to this region has been one of my very favorite stories in a year full of not-great ones.
Grateful to spend two days on the Klamath watching chinook, liberated by dam removal, return to streams from which they’d been precluded since the Titanic sank. Fish are everywhere, in numbers that stagger the mind & locations that biologists figured would take years to repopulate. Too beautiful.

If the Georgia PSC race is anything to judge by, a whole lot of generalist pundits are going to have to learn a whole lot about rate cases (this is bad! Support subject matter specialist journalists who've put in the time!)

Bill Gates hasn’t made sense on Climate since he teamed up with Bjorn Lomberg in 2009. This is just a restating of Bjorn’s book from this year about how we have a finite amount of money and we shouldn’t use it for climate. What they get wrong is that climate solutions are now fully profitable.
Bill Gates has a new memo out calling for a “strategic pivot” on climate change, downplaying “doomsday” talk to focus on filling enormous post-USAID budget gaps in global health and vaccine funding. I got an early glimpse of his thinking last week:
7 New Takes From Bill Gates on Climate ‘Doomsday’ Talk and Global Health
“I mean, God bless the Europeans for caring about climate.”
