The scene on ’Heated Rivalry’ where Shane asks Ilya to tell him everything in Russian because he won’t understand it.

The intimacy…

And yet not.

I had wanted to do my own Christmas cards forever. Being retired this year, I did it!

Very happy with Moo as the printer.

Just watched a lovely little movie , ‘The Ballad of Wallis Island’. Hadn’t heard of it until I saw it on streaming today.

One of the actors is so good at being unabashedly sentimental and near tears over things the character loves. It’s so sweet.

After yesterdays oil painting, I went all in on a big one today (2’ x 3’).

And once again, I am remembering why I loved oils so much. To get this far, it took less than 3 hours. In acrylics, it’d take at least twice that long.

I broke out the oil paints for the first time in over a decade. And oh my god, I now remember why they were my favorite.

Now I don’t have to paint around a full time job, I can manage the drying time and clean up.

More paintings of birds for holiday cards.

Realized I could leverage the fact I’m practicing painting birds to make Christmas cards.

Woo hoo! I just signed up for two six week painting classes in January and February.

I’m going to dip back into my old favorite, oil painting, for the first time in over a fifteen years plus try to learn more about my recent go to, acrylics.

This handsome hawk landed a few yards from me after trying and failing to grab a chipmunk from under my bird feeder.

Stay out super late tonight
Picking apples, making pies
Put a little something in our lemonade
And take it with us

We're half awake in a fake empire

Got out on the trail this morning to enjoy the fog and the fungi.

I just got home from over two weeks away and I didn’t know my dogs could be so smiley and affectionate.

In 24 hrs, I will be reunited with my dogs. And I am very much looking forward to seeing those goofy pups for the first time in over two weeks.

Today I learned that Dublin Airport won’t let you check in more than three hours before your flight even though the check in desk is very open. ☹️

There is something I just love about a train passing by my train platform at full speed.

Did a little day tour and got to see the cliffs of Moher. The weather cleared up just as we arrived.

Unfortunately, between storms in Ireland and US air traffic, I postponed my return to the states. But hey, it means I have time to go to Galway for a couple days.

Lots of folks captioning aurora photos like "for a few minutes we didn't think about politics"

guess I'm built different, every time I'm out trying to see night sky stuff I frequently think about how much light pollution is entirely preventable with just a tiny bit of regulation

OMG thank you. Infinite Jest is amazing at describing depression and digging into addiction and recovery.
This is such a hack answer, but reading Infinite Jest really exploded my understanding of and empathy around the issues of depression and addiction! It legitimately made me a better person!
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"
