Sixty-five years ago today, four first-graders desegregated New Orleans's public schools: Ruby Bridges at William Frantz Elementary School, and Leona Tate, Tessie Provost, and Gail Etienne at McDonogh 19 Elementary School. They faced violent mobs and threats to their lives. They were 6 years old. 🗃

So interesting. I do wonder if this is an argument for diversity as well as the value-added of girls and women? Do diverse groups skewed more female, look ‘better’ on these same outcomes, or some of them, compared to all female groups? (Written as a graduate of an all female HS.)
The more girls in a class, the merrier.

Data on 87k students: In cohorts with more girls, boys and girls have better mental health. More female peers predicts closer friendships for boys—and better body image & STEM grades for girls.

Girls build cultures of competence and care.

How often do you get to attend work meetings that structurally facilitate collaboration rather than manufactured competition? Every Trustee meeting I get to work alongside and learn from fellow alums who are incredibly committed to the present and future of our beloved Bucknell.

I have been wondering how my 82 year old parents are processing the world today having escaped the South in their youth.
Posting this from months ago because we DO have homegrown experience with autocratic regimes in this country.

In nearly half this country during the first 6 decades of the 20th century Black people lived under systems of cruelty, voter suppression, hate, state violence & corruption. Ask them!
