Data, economics, tech, environment, and 🐰. Not in that order.
If he has so little power over the FBI, couldn't they just ignore him when he tells them to reassign agents to immigration cases instead of violent crime and drug trafficking? It's like Shrodinger's unitary executive here.
Reporter: Why doesn’t the President just order the FBI to release the full Epstein files?

Leavitt: The President has said if the DOJ/FBI want to move forward with releasing any credible evidence, they should do so. As to why they have not—you should ask the FBI

Even if you're anti-immigration, I fundamentally don't see how this is a good thing. It's already been shown that 70 US citizens were deported in the last few months. This strips protections from all, in violation of the Constitution.
This is a horrifying ruling that shows a disdain for basic human rights principles — made all the more unconscionable by the fact that the Republican appointees did so with no reasoning and on the shadow docket.
BREAKING: SCOTUS over liberals' dissent, blocks district court order requiring process before carrying out third country removals. SCOTUS's order allows Trump admin to carry out third country removals without the protections required—notice and opportunity to raise a challenge. No reason is given.

If we're worried about things costing $BILLIONS OF DOLLARS, how much is that tariff policy costing, eh?
Workers famously hate paid days off work.

This strikes me as something that might have a shot when it (inevitably) reaches the Supreme Court if only because tribal rights is one of the few things Gorsuch reviews logically.

I will begin looking for a new role after my wedding in mid-July. I am open to a variety of positions as long as the people are kind and the work is focused on improving the quality of people’s lives. I hope to stay in California, but I am willing to move for the right opportunity. Let’s connect :)

I'm not having great feelings about the future of the Fed after this ruling.

An additional red flag I noticed over the weekend: I've never seen a DHS vehicle while living in Silicon Valley. This weekend I saw two, on separate occasions while going over the San Mateo bridge. Both unmarked, no lights on at night, only identifiable by the license plate. 🚩

One way AI changes my workflow is that it points me down some helpful rabbit holes. I inherently don't trust AI answers so I ask a question & research the answers it gives. They're not always right (& often wrong in some domains) but they often give me a lead I might not have otherwise thought of.

Given their focus on power, it makes sense. This gives them the opportunity to monopolize industries more easily. Smaller companies won't be able to fund research & they have teams that look for research in other parts of the world while they maintain power. Power is the game, not growth or progress
"One would think that venture capitalists, especially those with ties to the Trump administration, would be the most forceful champions of America’s research universities, given how much these institutions have fueled our careers and fortunes."

The article on @semafor.com is a must read. Most people deep in tech circles knew the power coordination was happening in private chat groups but this peels back the covers a bit. www.semafor.com/article/04/2...

@justinwolfers.bsky.social has reached his Joker moment in his recent interviews and I'm here for it. You can't see any US news without a quote from some administration official that sends economists into convulsions (my convulsions just happen to be in the privacy of my home, and occasionally here)

There are a number of headwinds for tech companies, but I do wonder how much of the impetus is reading the market signals. You have an administration hell bent on destroying growth and with no love for the tech industry. You want a war chest and cutting labor costs is a go-to tactic for that.
The shift from “how many people can we hire?” to “how many people can we fire?” has been incredible to observe sweep across big tech companies.

Employees are no longer the most valuable asset, just the most expensive.
