Big day for this first gen!!

Going to college was a big deal. Going to grad school was a big shock. Publishing my first paper was unbelievable. And now, having my work cited over 1000 times feels simply surreal. Thanks to everyone who has read and cited my scholarship :)

Really interesting new study out in SSM: "Precarious Manhood, Precarious Nations: The Contribution of Cultural Beliefs Comprising Masculinity to National Happiness”

More national precarious manhood beliefs = less national happiness, lower national GDP, shorter life expectancy, & less social support

I give this feedback all the time when reviewing qualitative research, but the quotes you present are meant to ILLUSTRATE your point, not MAKE it. Don’t make readers guess how you see the quote tying back to the point you’re trying to make. The quote should be set up and explained thoroughly.

I start my new job tomorrow, and I’m having All The Feelings about it. When I quit my job in May, I had no idea what was next for me. I had no leads — I just knew that I had to leave. I’ve spent the last few months exploring my life outside of paid work — my “year of whimsy,” as I have called it.

The best thing about Instagram is that you can follow zoo accounts and see adorable photos of animals right on your phone (I am partial to the Chester Zoo account these days because a baby snow leopard was just born there). The worst part is everything else.

“What radicalized you?”

Nothing. It is not radical to believe that the American people should have the same basic rights and supports that citizens of nearly every other industrialized nation do. You only believe this is radical because the US has demonized basic social safety nets as “socialism.”

It is great that small businesses and local organizations are stepping up to fill gaps in food access while SNAP is frozen, but every story masks a systemic and humiliating failure of the US Government to support its most vulnerable citizens. The GoFundMe-ification of social services makes me sick.
