I think that your energies here are misdirected at me. Many researchers study the effects of alcohol on behavior and health, but alcohol use is only tangential to the research questions that my own work seeks to answer.

I work on a clinical trial of a suicide prevention project, starting tomorrow. The role of substance use is well-established in violence prevention work, though many people can use alcohol without problems, and many instances of sexual violence/IPV occur in the absence of alcohol or other substances

If you think you don’t have space to do this, consider moving quotes to a table, which is rarely included in the word count, and save your words for explanation. Find other ways to be pithy. Or consider a different journal with a more generous word limit.

I have had the privilege of my partner’s support, which has made this time relatively stress-free. I will miss the freedom and flexibility of underemployment. But I am looking forward to the independence of having my own salary again. I never thought I’d say it, but I can’t wait to pay rent again.
