Carney et l’alliance répugnante avec les Émirats
Il y a quelque chose de scandaleux à voir Mark Carney, ex-gouverneur de la Banque du Canada, se rendre en visite officielle aux Émirats arabes unis.

By mimicking Reform to win back support, the Labour government is making a serious mistake. This race to the bottom emboldens Farage, punishes vulnerable people, amplifies racism, and undermines those working to hold communities together.

Having consulted barrister, Eric Fripp’s book on the international law of refugee status, I conclude that the policy is mostly bark, little bite. It is for show. Yes, the integration point is germane, alongside ‘effective nationality’ of people they want to remove after, eg, 10-15 years. Woof.
The basic problem with the temporary refugee status policy - especially one lasting up to 20 years - is it leads to very few removals (based on Denmark's experience) but does significantly worsen integration.

Thinking about how the perfectly sane and humane - and not remotely radical - words coming out of this man’s mouth makes him an outlier in today’s political landscape.
A Government of cowards.

Rather than tackle inequality - they've gone for pensioners, disabled people and now it's people fleeing war and persecution.

They can't get away with this.

I continue to be unsure if I've moved further to the left as I've aged, or if the people on the right moved so much further to the right than they were 30 years ago that just by standing still I've effectively moved leftward.

This is a new low from a govt plumbing the depths of performative cruelty in hopes that the public won’t notice they have no answers to the real issues facing this country

A sensible, humane govt would focus on safe routes to prevent people making dangerous small boat crossings

Watching “Lefter: The Story of the Ordinarius”, about TC, Rum-origin footballer, Lefter Küçükandonyadis, ex Fener etc.

Would have spoken to his family in Rum / Greek; funerals the same. The film has this in Turkish. A bit jarring. What was Büyükada like from the end of the Ottoman period to 2012?

If you are in UK or have a VPN, you can view ITV’s The Hack. A story based on the true unraveling of tabloid phone hacking in early/mid 2000s. It leaves us thinking those involved got away with murder & other criminal acts & are at large, living comfortably & the take down of the Beeb continues.
