In which a white lady confuses proximity to power with actual power. If only the woman had read some Patricia Hills Collins. 🤔
Oh my god in the scenes where she interviews Trump she just quotes him in full verbatim. Why would you include this in your book?!

She's allegedly this master of working high-level sources but she lets him filibuster for minutes on end. The interview produces nothing.

Sure, when Gehry subverted expectations he "defied gravity", but when I try to do the same thing with my syllabus' it "doesn't make sense" and is "confusing to students". #rude ( #kidding )

Discussion of politicians' 'fitness to serve' is a really fun way to find out just how deeply ableist everyone you know is.

"You would think if all these rich dudes cared so much about living forever, they'd be more concerned with climate change?" - me, an ✨️ intellectual ✨️ having sudden thought in a Trader Joe's, that has already occurred to literally everyone else around me.

There's so much discourse around how terrible duolingo is now, but no one seems to be talking about what we're really missing: learning how to swear. #duolingo #languagesky

There has not been a day that has passed since that I haven't thought of Helen. Grief is a funny thing; wholly unpredictable. I didn't know her personally, yet her work and life had a profound impact on my teaching & research. She will be missed immensely.
Dear all,

Helen passed away at 13:21 local time. Helen would not have wanted us to be sad for a long time. All they wanted was to be remembered. They looked forward to being rid of pain and to being at rest. Helen took great comfort in you, their friends and readers.

Here's a horrifying thing I learned today: that budget bill that just passed bans Medicaid funds from going to large non-profits that perform abortions...which effectively bans abortion nationwide. 🎉🎉🎉 #IHateItHere

This brings up something I don't think some people understand: in *any* real estate transaction, you need to make sure you pull a title report on the property in question. You can do this directly through a title company or have a reputable real estate agent pull it for you.
Charles Carrier, a “We Buy Ugly Houses” former franchise owner, is accused of orchestrating a yearslong Ponzi scheme, bilking tens of millions of dollars from both wealthy investors and older people with modest incomes.

Despite signs of trouble, the company didn’t intervene.

Academic Bluesky! How are we structuring our work schedules this summer? I've got zero courses to teach (UP runs classes over the summer) and need some inspiration.

What's fun about the memory loss related to depression and our digital age (where nothing's ever forgotten), is that cloud storage apps can be like "hey, remember this photo from a few years ago?" And I honestly cannot.

I can’t believe that even after so many people have patiently sat down and explained how university finances work, the government still thinks turning the big dial that says “ban international students” is a winning economic strategy
The UK government is proposing to finally finish off its universities by further tightening the terms of the graduate visa route. The stupid fools. Playing with dangers they don't even understand. www.ft.com/content/f441...

Very happy to report that for every horrible public policy decision* that has been made, #UniversityofPortoand has stood its ground and doubled down on doing the right thing.

I can't believe how many white women online are spouting "joy & rest are revolutionary". I want to be v. clear: it absolutely *can* be, but when you belong to the oppressive class, as best it pacifies &, at worse, subjegates & enacts violence.
This incl's liberal & leftist WW. We are the problem.

White women on the left: this is what we are really, really good at; this is how we try to atone for what we did in Nov.

We have to do it at work, in every place we want to be taken seriously. Our privilege has given us practice, and now we have the chance to shield others who are more vulnerable.
here is the unappealing truth: resistance means asserting yourself as a pest. one sting isn't sufficient; you've got to keep biting, till your voice is not only expected but bemoaned. right now, the best way to love your country is to make some underpaid staffer say "not *this* person again."
