We can't go on like this.

"What if one of YOUR favorite politicians/celebrities/etc is on the list?" Did you all not notice how quickly we dropped Neil Gaiman when we found out about the things he did? Do you know how beloved that guy used to be and how loathed he is now? I think that right there should answer your question.

Straight cis bloke here: I read Joanna Russ's The Female Man as a student and gradually worked out its messages over the next ten years. By which time I was ready for Cynthia Heimel's Sex Tips For Girls, which taught me how to be a boyfriend by showing what (some) women want.

Dad’s books are full of empathy, common sense, and a healthy suspicion of the powerful. But at its heart his work is also about how systems keep people poor while pretending it’s their own fault. So I hope Kemi’s taking notes as well as reading the jokes.
Kemi Badenoch claiming Terry Pratchett as her favourite author is wild

My bank wants to know my occupation. The "pick one" list includes "politician" and "government minister". Not both.

This actually explains a lot.

As well as the points about feminism, I am pleased to see Le Guin say that active audience involvement is valuable at con panels. This is what makes them different from watching YouTube! I have been arguing for this at SF cons for years.

I managed to see the new Superman in the cinema, and I really enjoyed it:
- Cleverly worked out plot, making room for action sequences and character, with some surprises.
- Skipping the dull opening of the story to get on with the fun stuff.
- A moral compass and things to say.

Anyone who talks about ‘protecting our borders’ or ‘entering the UK without permission’ in the specific context of asylum, either has no understanding of what a refugee is or fully understands but doesn’t care.

That’s a huge proportion of the UK’s journalists and commentators I’m talking about.

I played the original Dune game back in the day. It has heaps of flavour, it's surprisingly well balanced given how asymmetric it is, and it is full of opportunities to pull off neat moments.
I once won a game of the original, iconic Dune boardgane as the Bene Gesserit.

That will, forever, be the greatest gaming thing I've ever done.

(If you know what their assymetrical win condition is, you'll understand why)
