Tom Lehrer RIP at age 98. This singer-songwriter, first introduced to my life in the late 1950's, was a huge influence on my worldview. And remains so.

People saying that they are shocked, or that Putin is hoodwinking Trump still don't get it. Putin isn't fooling Trump or Trump has not changed his position. He is pro-Putin, he wants Russia to do well and he could not care less about Ukraine (and he hates Zelensky).

Paper of the Day: "Who values democracy?"

Democratizations had a large, negative impact on asset valuations and elevated risk premia driven by a rise in redistribution risk.

Autocratizations led to negligible asset pricing responses.

It's not very surprising to read that another LLM transcription tool makes things up. It's still an open empirical question IMO whether the risks of errors and time consumed by correcting them is outweighed by the time saved using these tools. apnews.com/article/ai-a...
Researchers say an AI-powered transcription tool used in hospitals invents things no one ever said
Whisper is a popular transcription tool powered by artificial intelligence, but it has a major flaw. It makes things up that were never said.

Respect for Joey making the move from the other place. He had a v large following over there and there are not many in that US econ and finance cohort who have come over so there is some sacrifice to doing it. Please follow if you are interested in the US economy and finance and, well, data.
Going to be in NYC for 48 hours this week, what are some good things to do or see
