A while back I did a series inspired by @dontdeleteart.bsky.social - here a few of images that were removed from Instagram due to violations of "community guidelines" 🙄 Policies that always seem to hurt women.

New age verification legislation in 22 U.S. states—meant to protect minors from “harmful” online content— are bound to sweep up artists in regulations that will lead to self-censorship and put limits to the pubic's access to art.

A few months ago, an update to Apple's "clean up" retouching tool deployed a "Safety filter" when nudity was detected that would automatically pixelate everything artists wanted to retouch.

We told them to remove this frustrating assumption that hindered artists from editing their artwork!

A few weeks ago we had the honor of participating in UNESCO’s World Press Freedom Day 2025 as part of a conversation about how digital technologies like AI are impacting artistic freedom.
DDA’s @exshaps.bsky.social joined @unesco.org, LAS Art Foundation, CISAC, and Viviana Rangel 🔥

One of the more frustrating things artists face when it comes to art censorship and suppression online is not only that self-censored work is wrongly actioned on, but artwork that has been posted earlier (even years earlier) is actioned on and creates visibility issues for your account.

KOSA is being reintroduced today.

It's always been a dangerous censorship bill.

But in this environment, with Trump weaponizing every aspect of the Federal government to suppress speech he doesn't like, KOSA is a catastrophic attack on human rights.

We have to stop it.

Stop KOSA
KOSA is a censorship bill that won’t make kids safe. Instead, it'll put all internet users at risk, especially youth. If you believe in a free and open internet, tell your lawmakers to reject #KOSA!

Artists in Europe! Do you know about this??
My article about the EU's out-of-court dispute settlement bodies (ODS's) published by @theartnewspaper.bsky.social
I see a lot of potential for ODS's to incorporate artistic freedom cases, and give a better voice to artists' needs and challenges. But first, we need to use them. Read about it here:
Here's how the EU is aiding artists in tackling social media moderation issues

Is the art in your feed curated by... a tech company? Content moderation policies and enforcement algorithms are de facto determining what art circulates.
This has an outsized effect on which artists succeed and what kinds of art audiences have the opportunity to see in the first place.

This IWD, we want to call your attention to a key problem affecting the accessibility of art online:
The human nude has been a source of artistic inspiration for at least 30,000 years, but common AI algorithms are trained to sexualize (and hide) the female-presenting body.

Hi DDA community! Just a note to say how much we appreciate your resilience and art 💖💖 The internet is changing, and being there for each other is more important than ever to assure art is protected and valued wherever we are.

What is everyone's experience with labels and appeals lately?
so, 3 labels were automatically put on this collage artwork: "Adult Content (explicit sexual images)", "Sexually Suggestive (Does not include nudity)", and "Non-Sexual Nudity (e.g. artistic nudes)" I very much disagree with the first 2, appeals aren't working. @moderation.bsky.app @bsky.app
