Insects seem to be swarming all around us, so it's no wonder we don't seem to to notice that they're disappearing at a rate of 2% per year. And this has massive implications, as environmental journalist Oliver Milman explains.

Earth Overshoot Day arrived earlier than ever this year. The late Prof. Herman Daly once asked:
“Where’s the ‘when to stop’ point? Where’s the Plimsoll Line?”
We’ve already crossed the line.
Time to act with real courage, and compassion.

From the intellectual & ecological to the spiritual & psychological, these ideas might be considered waypoints for navigating the human predicament, and – in aggregate – help build ‘scout teams’ of humans working on the upcoming cultural transition away from infinite material expansion.
In this Earth Day presentation, recorded earlier this year, Nate offers nine broad paths for individuals to cultivate resilience in an increasingly uncertain and unstable period of human history.

From today, Govt only has 100 days to publish a new climate plan, a task made infinitely more difficult by its own approval of rampant airport expansion.

How credible can any climate plan possibly be with a third runway at Heathrow and the most expensive train tickets in Europe?

This was NOT unexpected

There were 4 warnings/alerts for this event, starting Wednesday afternoon

The forecasters got it right, but the local authorities/disaster responders did not do enough - if anything - to warn those in danger

This was NOT inevitable

There’s been surprisingly little attention paid to a basic question: do we even have the technical capability to guide where any of this is headed?

And if not, should we slow the pace of innovation until we better understand how these complex systems actually work?
In this episode, Nate is joined by Artificial Intelligence researcher, Connor Leahy, to discuss the rapid advancements in AI, the potential risks associated with its development, and the challenges of controlling these technologies as they evolve.

We are sleepwalking into this catastrophe.

AI is dominating our children’s lives and removing the need to read, write, and most importantly, to think.

This is the cohesive and controlling behaviour of billionaires we are normalising. A superb insight from @natehagens.bsky.social
With the use of AI becoming more ubiquitous by the day, we must ask ourselves: can our education systems adequately protect children from the potential harms of AI?
In this episode, Nate is joined once again by philosopher of education Zak Stein to delve into the far-reaching implications of technology – especially artificial intelligence – on the future of education.
