It’s flabbergasting the number of people, many of whom are supposed to be intelligent, that claim what he was doing was Civil Discourse. These people either don’t understand Civil Discourse, or wrongly think spouting bigotry in, while kinda maintaining a polite disposition somehow counts.

We have far more disengaged lean D people who are erratic voters than potential swing voters, and this kind of pandering to moderate Rs around social issues is what keeps them disengaged and suppresses turnout.

I’m not glad this guy is dead. I’m not sad either. It would be better if we didn’t regularly see this sort of thing happening, but here we are and he played a non-negligible role in creating the culture that cost him his life.
