Using the same picture for these two headlines on Feb 26 and Aug 28 is clever. Touche, @dpcarrington.bsky.social. Would be a most hilarious 'gotcha!' moment if it weren't so depressing.

Thank you @theguardian.com for re-sharing Omer Bartov’s thoughtful, insightful, and sensitive essay from 2024. Well worth the time.

Whenever I see an article about the “most liveable cities” it sounds like most cities are not “liveable”, which in itself sounds like a pretty low bar. Can we strive for a world where people can thrive in cities and not just attempt to maybe hopefully survive? Can we change this rating system plz?

Let’s talk about yesterday. During a Department of Homeland Security press conference in Los Angeles led by Secretary Kristi Noem, Senator Alex Padilla (D‑CA) was forcibly removed, forced face-down on the ground, and handcuffed by federal agents. Here’s what to know:

This is an important reminder: even the LAPD acknowledged yesterday that everything was peaceful.

Then Trump brought the chaos.

He is responsible.

Hello fellow Canadians! This seems an appropriate time to remind you that it's FREE to send a letter to any MP, including Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand—so (eloquently) write your demands, and throw them in a mailbox, thanks to Canada Post:

Mark Carney might have given the most awkward leadership speech I've ever seen, but maybe someone who's not great at hype-man politicking is exactly what we need right now.

Truly amazing. Thank you Donald J Trump.
seeing americans give a shit about canadian politics for the first time mostly ever is WILD
Me, 4 hours ago: Oh jeez I forgot Canada's elections were tonight

Me, 10 minutes ago: *Long cigarette drag* Well you see the history of Polliviere's riding means that with 115 of the 266 polls reporting and Fanjoy up by nearly 7% it's a statistical unlikelihood for a comeback

@jagmeetsingh.ca a lot of Canadians across the country are devastated to see you lose your spot, and recognize the amount of work you've put into this country. Thank you, and thanks for staying real. Hope you get some well-earned relaxation before whatever comes next.

Thank you @liberalca.bsky.social for giving one of the most bigoted Conservative MPs in all of Canada a seat in the next parliament. Why are the Liberals running candidates in places that we all know is just going to split?

This is also why it's so important for NDP to keep party status. Minority governments seem to be the only way we as citizens can truly influence government decisions.
we need to hammer it into the NDP (if the Libs end up doing a confidence & supply agreement) that we need electoral reform. it does not help
And this is why FPTP and strategic voting remains fucked up and suboptimal!

It’s funny that as humans we always think these things are happening to our ecosystems because we haven’t meddled enough. This declaration is ridiculous, but it’s also only a small exaggeration of how we’re managing these landscapes today.

We can’t have this play out again in Canada after seeing how it’s gone down in the US. Racism and sexism and lies do not turn countries into nice places to live in, for anyone.
