Whenever I post about climate, skeptical folks inevitable respond with this graph. So I decided to do something radical: actually read the underling scientific paper and ask the authors.

As it turns out, it actually says the opposite of what skeptics claim: www.theclimatebrink....

I dislike the framing of climate tipping points, but it's good to keep in mind that there are components of the climate system that react nonlinearly to warming and will exacerbate climate change. We don't know the timing, but we know the only way to prevent disaster is to stop burning fossil fuels.

Earth’s warming could trigger sweeping changes in the natural world that would be hard, if not impossible, to reverse.

The thin end of a potentially very, very wide wedge. The concept of human rights only has real value for as long as they're universal and, by definition, cannot be ignored because the state doesn't like that they apply to you.

A constant reminder that even if CO₂ emissions decreased annually as much as they did during the pandemic lockdown from now to 2030, we still wouldn't meet our emission target to keep global warming below 1.5°C.
