Clean electricity is officially growing fast enough in China that the level of fossil generation is falling, even as overall demand rises. They've gotten over the hump.

Poland, the European equivalent of West Virginia, is rapidly ditching transitioning beyond coal to solar and wind

"[LNG]Imports for China this year are estimated at around 64.6 million tons, down from 78.27 million in 2024" Reuters (today).

Here is what that looks like for China compared to what was predicted by BloombergNEF in the middle of last year. So they forecasting mid 80s and it is actual mid 60s.

Kenya is one of Africa's clean energy leaders:

In 2000 60% of electricity came from fossil fuels.

Today:

- 8% is from fossil fuels
- 43% is from geothermal
- 28% from hydro
- 14% from wind and
- 4% from solar.

In 2000 almost 90% of Denmark's electricity was from fossil fuels.

In 2024 less than 10% of Danish electricity was from fossil fuels.

When the UK's new nuclear power plant Hinkley Point C starts to produce power in 2030, its guaranteed 'strike price' will have risen to ~150 £/MWh (170 €/MWh). Average wholesale electricity prices will probably be around half of that, so that's a 50% subsidy.

My last faculty interview I ever had (didn’t get the job) used a slide I made that said: “every five days the sun sends more energy to earth than all proved plus probable FF reserves”.
Today on Volts: the subset of cleantech known as "electrotech" -- solar, batteries, heat pumps, etc. -- is marching toward inevitable victory, not because it's low-emissions (though it is), but because it's more efficient & cheaper. I discuss the good news with @kingsmillbond.bsky.social.
Clean electrification is inevitable
Kingsmill Bond explains why the global march of "electrotech" has moved beyond the reach of US political interference.
