Stirring the climate pot at QCF
Pinned
Climate people survived 50 years in the political wilderness

4 more is the blink of an eye

We’re not going anywhere ✊
Average temperatures in the west have been 10-15 F higher than normal over the past month

Politics might want to be done with climate change, but it’s only getting started with us

There’s been so much bad news about EVs this year it’s time for a ray of sunshine ☀️

There’s a lot of handwringing about charging stations as a central barrier to adoption

But they’ve increased 12x over the past decade - and just keep growing 😎

This Yglesias piece in the NYT is horrifically bad. Almost every "fact" it cites is provably false. At best it is cocktail party banter from a pundit who knows nothing of energy. At worst, it was cut/paste from oil industry talking points. So, a rebuttal: www.nytimes.com/2025/12/18/o...

In the US there might be a war on wind but globally the industry is winning it

A record 160 GW will be installed this year

The winds of change, they’re still blowing 💨

The West is deciding to sell blue ray and VHS tapes as China leads the global shift to streaming

We’re buying a couple years of profits at the expense of the industries of the future

We think we have deep economic and political problems now, ain’t seen nothing yet

Who could have guessed a company fronted by a guy who couldn’t remember the name of the agency he wanted to eliminate as he was running for president( the department of energy) could potentially be snake oil

It’s been a tough year for the climate movement. But while we may be down, we’re never out.

Especially with the news coming out of China that coal consumption in the power sector is on track for its first decline since the Paris agreement

That’s what I’d technically call a BFD 🤯

I’m all for a solar conquers all ethos but space based solar as storage might be where I draw the line

I mean we have batteries people, lots and lots of cheap batteries down here on earth

Just sayin’

Looking at CREA’s scorecard of Chinese climate progress and there’s a helluva lot more sectors that are ‘green on track’ than you might expect 👀

Let us change the game, and make so many batteries that people stop caring about transmission and dispatchability.

Here comes the battery boom, and it is going to be big 🤯

Energy transitions can happen faster than we think:

In 2000 almost 90% of Denmark's electricity was from fossil fuels.

In 2024 less than 10% of Danish electricity was from fossil fuels.

If China is a post card from the future it’s also blessedly quieter thanks to EVs 👀

We all need some good news in these dark times

Poland, the European equivalent of West Virginia, is rapidly ditching transitioning beyond coal to solar and wind
