It's a useful reminder that sometimes tech can make a task more efficient for one side (applying for jobs), and more efficient for the other side (writing job adverts), and yet make the system as a whole completely inefficient.

It is 2025 - we really shouldn't need a petition for this!

Require schools to let children use the toilet at all times in the school day.
Do not lock toilets so that they aren’t accessible during certain times of the day.

"Once I understood that my anxiety about losing impact and visibility only affirmed the narrative of the tech industry, I felt ready to refuse [AI being trained on my book and having added AI components in future]."
We need a critique of AI in academic publishing. Following my decision not to sign an AI addendum to my contract with Cambridge University Press, I wrote this short essay which is now out in the Dublin Review of Books.

If you are only against sexism provided women treat you nicely, I have a spoiler for you.

You are not really against sexism.

(Same of course for racism, ableism, queerphobia, etc.)

A whole series of studies of the research priorities of Autistic people have broadly reached this same conclusion.

Interestingly, studies involving our family members also come out strongly in favour of research aimed at improving our wellbeing.
How can autistic adults thrive in life?

This should be at the heart of autism researchers, not what causes autism.

But instead.. 2025.. and I still keep seeing all the same things that's labeled as negative or a barrier from these researchers, that is disappointing to say the least.

Come on now.

A repetitive thing we hear a lot as women in cognitive sciences — which comes up especially when we talk to each other about our reviews, how peers talk to us, etc. — is our writing is not accessible, does this generalise to other fields? Weaponised "you're unclear" is so pathetic IMHO of course

One of the biggest dangers of AI is that it facilitates the concentration of the power to manipulate information flows, without any requirement to understand its content. This process has been ongoing for decades (e.g. the failure to control COVID is a direct result), but LLMs are accelerating it.
Happy International Women's Day!

A reminder that this specific screwup has now killed ~25 million people.

A world that allows an influential, entitled, ignorant man to just shout down a smarter and more knowledgeable woman 👉can literally kill you.👈

Los hogares ricos compran vivienda como inversión, aprovechando la alta rentabilidad del alquiler.

Esa demanda especulativa es clave en la crisis de vivienda.

Se puede solucionar con una ley que prohíba la compra de vivienda para fines no residenciales.
