Is that really the case, though? I find that I only really think clearly in conversation, when there are real, not imaginary people to have a dialogue with. For me, the funniest, most engaging and most surprising TTRPG moments come out of this interplay.

concept of a "hook" in ttrpg advice is terrible. stop telling people about this. it's an ingame solution for an out of game problem. players should be creating characters who are primed to go on adventures together at the outset you shouldn't need to convince them to play your game

In think there is definitely always a space for the 4-hour long ttrpg game for 46 of the 52 weeks in a year.
That said, I've been running stuff for random folk at tables and we've nearly cracked the 2.5 hour barrier.
Here's what has helped.
