I know he was in last week as well but this might be the most important read of the week. An iconic piece of research on scaffolding just failed replication and @carlhendrick.substack.com has all the details and what it might mean here.

We are currently preparing a large scale up of moderators to deal with the big backlog, which has built up to a truly unacceptable size. Again, please accept our apologies, and perhaps also take this as an invitation to join the moderation team? We need all hands on deck. bsky.app/profile/impr...

Does anyone else find it perpetually annoying that what most folks would consider neural "computation" is Marr's "algorithmic" level, while his *computational* level is really just "what's the goal of this thing anyway?" AKA function.

Having tried to estimate power for complex glmm analyses, I feel represented by this image.
Fantastic blogpost for our Meta-Research Center: @anoukbouma.bsky.social argues that meta-scientists - especially tool builders - could learn a lot from marketing. Taking a user-perspective when designing a tool can be a crucial missing step that can help us increase take-up of proposed solutions.
I wrote a blogpost on something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately: how metascientists could (and should) think more about their users when designing tools and reforms.

Would love to hear any thoughts on this topic!

😔 RIP stack overflow
People asking questions on Stack Overflow has declined to levels not seen in 15 years. Vibe coding and AI chat bots have made this once vibrant and essential developer community obsolete.

It’s unsurprising its parent company now wants to rebrand away from Stack Overflow.

RIP. You were a real one.
Stack overflow is almost dead
Today, Stack overflow has almost as few questions asked per month, as when it launched back in 2009. A recap of its slow, then rapid, downfall.
