It would be a pity to not to use the opportunity of being the RoCur to shamelessly promote some #RStats packages 📦 that I have developed 😆

They're all useful for me. Perhaps they'll be useful for you too.

I'd love to hear about packages you've developed - please share in the replies.

This is a thread about Forwards, the R Foundation task-force on women and other under-represented groups.

We work on accessibility, community, conferences, on-ramps, social media, surveys, and teaching.

I know that "What's your favourite R package?" threads are a fairly common RoCur occurrence.

I want to know your favourite **functions** (both base R and in packages).

Mine are the `browse_*` family from {usethis}, to visit important project-related web pages.

These functions take you to various web pages associated with a project (often, an R package) and return the target URL(s) invisibly. To form these URLs we consult: Git remotes configured for the acti...

What luck that this announcement relating to R contribution landed the week that I'm RoCur!

I am unbelievably excited to be part of this team, working with many wonderful people on the sustainability of the language and community we love ❤️
🎉 Big news for the future of #RStats. The project

"Enabling the next generation of R contributors"

has received £500k over 2 years.

Hello! I'm back to talk about R community. This is a thread about @rainbowr.org, a community for LGBTQ+ folks who code in R 🌈

I know previous RoCurs have talked about rainbowR, but as the co-founder and co-lead of the community, I can't not write this thread!

One final contributing to base R post from me today, sharing a blog post from Rhian on her experience of participating in an R Dev Day.

I can't talk about contributing to base R without mentioning my favourite R-thing I've ever done, adding the `penguins` dataset to R >4.5.0 🐧

After a journey from Antartica to PLOS ONE to the {palmerpenguins} package, what a joy to help the penguins march into R, immediately available to everyone!

Ask them in the replies here and I'll do my best to answer.

Have you contributed to base R?

If so, share your work in the replies (I tagged a few folks in the previous thread, but there are many others I missed, or don't know about).

When tracking down bugs in base R code, you may well find yourself coming across some C.

Don't know any C?

No worries! I've got you covered with "C for R Users". The recording from R-Ladies Philly covers a live demo using the R Dev Container.

After a bit of a technical interruption yesterday, I'm now back with more contributing to base R content.

In this thread I want to highlight improvements to R that have been made by R contributors, often the result of work at R Dev Days.

It shows what's possible for us to do!

Recruiters often say many candidates don’t even read the full job description before applying, and that it’s hard to filter them out.

But it goes both ways. I’ve received plenty of recruiter emails and messages where they clearly hadn’t read my profile or qualifications before spamming me.

This is a great way to contribute to the #rstats and #TidyTuesday communities!
I only need *5* more dataset curations (and to review those 5 plus the open PR) to be done curating #TidyTuesday for 2025! I can definitely do at least one myself, so I just need 4 of you to curate a dataset! Check out github.com/rfordatascie... for #RStats instructions.
