June is Migraine & Headache Awareness Month, and my advocacy has been on fire! But not here. My brain is prone to fixation, so I've been posting to the other platform I use & kinda like (Insta). My fave advocacy content so far this month is how to be an ally to people w/ migraine. 💜 #MHAM2025
We’ve reached the last day of #Migraine & Headache Disorders Awareness Month. But for those of us living with these conditions we work for recognition and needed change every single day! #MigraineAwareness

Wear a pair, show you care. 💜 Today we wear Shades for Migraine as a visible symbol of this largely invisible disease.

Can’t wait to see your photos!

I've got a "believe us" x "accommodate us" example for you... When someone asks for a fragrance free option (e.g. at a hair salon when picking a shampoo to use between steps of the haircut), believe them that they actually need a fragrance free one, not "this one that seems to be less scented".

Adriana Smith was the victim of misogynoir. An ER ignored her pleas for help, and she died of blood clots in her brain the next day.

The hospital then forced her body to be kept alive to try and save a 9 week old fetus.

Did you know that even if she had a DNR, it wouldn't have mattered?

Don't date cops. This ish is a cautionary tale. And there are so many others that are even darker.
Three years after the death of her then-boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe, Karen Read was found not guilty of second-degree murder Wednesday afternoon.
Karen Read Found Not Guilty of Murder in Retrial
Karen Read, the Massachusetts woman accused of killing her boyfriend in a hit-and-run, was found not guilty of murder, but guilty of drunk driving.

Trying to manage my social media usage and finding it's all or nothing for me. I guess that's a function of how these platforms are designed and my personality. But I've missed the connections I have with awesome people here. Maybe I'll be around more???

Can you imagine if this Signal/Atlantic thing had happened a couple months into the Biden administration and Kamala Harris was part of the group chat? Republicans would be screaming for her to resign immediately. This is insane.

Fascists benefit from an uninformed, unwell & divided population.

That's why community care is so important. Give to your local mask bloc, food bank, community fridge or free library.

Wear a mask, and if you can afford it, leave N95s IN the free libraries! People will happily take them!

Me, when I'm judging people but owe people something.
These people are clearly not up for the job.
American war planning usually takes place in highly secure facilities. But the Trump administration planned its strikes on the Houthis using a group chat—and accidentally included The Atlantic’s editor in chief, @jeffreygoldberg.bsky.social. theatln.tc/AmsjsuT6

The project of learning (and unlearning) to manage my constantly on alert nervous system continues. Had second appointment with a new therapist this morning. I'm cautiously optimistic. Seems like a good fit for my needs. It's hard to trust when you've had bad experiences, but I'm glad I'm trying.

I know using alt-text for images isn't yet habit for a lot of refugees from Xitter. I get it. But ESPECIALLY when sharing anything related to political activism, please use it. Disabled people, including blind folks or those w/ low vision, are targets right now. They must be a part of your activism.

Now under Trump, the NIH says it is cutting ~$9 billion in federal research grants supporting medical research ranging from cancer to Alzheimer's diseases.

Deep Cuts to Medical Research Funds Could Hobble University Budgets
Grants from the National Institutes of Health come with additional money for overhead. Proposed funding cuts would leave colleges with large budget gaps.

Scam patients like this often, Cleveland Clinic? This isn’t the opposite of migraine advocacy.
I got a mesg from Cleveland Clinic neurology dept welcoming all migraine patients to a town hall on zoom to discuss our challenges in living with migraine. Cool! Fine print? This will be billed as a telehealth with copay. And if your insurance no longer covers telehealth appts, I guess tough luck?

Criminalizing masks makes public spaces less safe for disabled people. It pushes us further into the shadows

The powers that be don’t want us to be visible. They don’t want a reminder that Covid is still a threat

Wear a mask in solidarity. Tell the government that the vulnerable are not expendable

Anyway, as white conservatives & their enslaver forebears have always known, there is a direct relationship btwn knowledge & liberation. That's why they limited education & informed public discourse under slavery & work frantically to destroy them today. We must DEFY THEM AT EVERY TURN. /end

I’ve been so emotionally dysregulated and grumpy and taking it out on my partner that our kid is afraid we’re splitting up. The glimmer of good is that she felt comfortable to tell her school counselor she’s worried. I need to pull it together. For all of us.

Disability is not a personal or moral failing. Everyone is one accident, infection or stroke of bad luck from becoming disabled.

When someone asks for help, give it freely and without strings. Don’t judge them or tell them to “try harder”.

One day it’ll be your turn.

I’m not okay, and I’m not ashamed to admit it. What’s happening is legitimately terrifying to anyone who is paying attention and understands the far-ranging implications. We allow ourselves to feel the fear and keep right on resisting. Cultivate community and harness joy in as many ways as we can.

I honestly believe our most powerful position in a toxic time that feeds on cynicism, apathy,& despair is to genuinely care and act for a better world.

Cynicism is our enemy. We should check it, incl. on the left. It’s not intellectually superior. It’s the virus they’re trying to infect us with. NO

Exactly. Where the heck would we go?!?!
Just a reminder that if you tell a disabled person to move out of the US if they’re scared of living here, other countries don’t want us either. Countries will turn you away because you’re disabled. We’re seen as a burden and that’s so normalized that it’s okay to turn us away.

The way we discuss migraine is so important. Was reminded today that we have a long way to go in adopting less stigmatizing language when I heard a pediatric neurologist refer to the condition as “migraine headache” on a podcast about another neurological condition. Sigh.
