in retrospect, it was amazing how much power people like Steven Pinker and Malcolm Gladwell had at their fingertips in the pre-social media era. They could write an airport book claiming potato chips killed more people than all historical wars combined and it would become universal received wisdom

Almost can't believe I felt the need to write this but... Is Trump about to attack Greenland?

There has been a clear escalation in rhetoric in recent weeks.

It seems hard to believe, but the administration seems to be building up to something

Can’t stress enough how major media outlets are continually failing (or aligned with the owner of Twitter) when reporting on this. “Grok” didn’t do anything. The owner of grok made the CSAM generator into a premium service.

Elon Musk’s Grok AI chatbot faced backlash for creating images of undressed women and children. The image-generating function will now be available only to paying subscribers.

🚨 “Can I tell you how many times in the last 45 years the European Court of Human Rights has ruled against the UK when it comes to deporting people from this country - only 13 times - in 45 years”

Please remember this in 2026 when Nigel Farage tells you we must leave the ECHR to control our borders
Human rights are universal - politicians may not always find them politically convenient but it shouldn’t fall to any government to say who those rights should & should not apply to. Because none of us then has rights, just privileges that can be taken away by those in power

The power, a public utility, went out. So the traffic lights, a public law regulating shared behavior, went out. So the Waymos, a private taxi service, failed.

I stopped drinking booze back in April. No particular reason other than I didn't fancy it one weekend and haven't missed it since. Yesterday I read an article about all the health benefits I should have noticed over the past eight months, and reader, I feel very cheated indeed.

I suspect this article framing is a way to criticise the upcoming doctors' strikes.

The real cause for alarm for me is that the NHS is going into this winter stressed and stretched *yet again*.

We should have a health system that can cope much better with winter pressures and we just don’t. 7/8

Celebrity chefs told Californians that PFAS-coated pans were “safe,” and successfully lobbied Gavin Newsom to veto a bill phasing them out

They didn’t mention they all sell PFAS-coated pans.

New joint investigation with @mirandagreen.bsky.social and @atmosmag.bsky.social is out:
Why are famous chefs fighting PFAS bans?
The answer, in retrospect, is obvious—and it’s part of a larger campaign to stop bans on Teflon cookware nationwide.
