BREAKING: The Virginia Senate passes a constitutional amendment to automatically restore voting rights to people with felony convictions.

The measure now heads to voters. If approved, thousands of Virginians — particularly Black residents — would no longer be shut out of the democratic process.

I mean I *knew* that the whole plan was for Machado to go to the White House and physically give Trump her Nobel Prize and yet I still feel like I’m disassociating that it happened.

We have a little less than 14 hours to go! Today, is the final day of our end-of-year campaign. We’re $5,000 away from our $50,000 goal, and every gift made today is matched, helping us close the gap before midnight. Can you help us close the gap?
We need your help! So far, we’ve raised $16,000 from 164 donors, which tells us that a lot of people understand the importance of this work. We train incarcerated writers and publish their stories. Our goal is to raise $50,000 by Dec. 31. Can you support our work?

When your health insurance premiums increase next year, thank MAGA Republicans. Donald Trump promised to “lower costs on Day One,” but he spends his days tinkering with plans for his vanity project White House ballroom. Let them eat crypto and pardons for dictators.

I swore an oath to the Constitution in 1986. I've upheld it through 25 years of service and every day since I retired.

If Trump's trying to intimidate me, it won’t work. I’ve given too much to our country to be silenced by bullies who care more about power than the Constitution.

This is an elegant piece to read, an elegant concept to ponder.
"After about two weeks it hit me like a sword strike to the throat: we are all gonna die and that is a simple fact of physical existence. As for me, I’m already on Death Row which puts my death right there in my face."

I came across a passage in a book called "Hagakure, The Book of the Samurai," that states, “Meditation on inevitable death should be...

Oof. The unnecessary indignities these women endure is staggering. Hat tip to the women who shared the vulnerable details of their lives in this story. This is the kind of stuff nobody wants to talk about, but we need to talk about.
In a recent piece, Kelsey Dodson shares what it's like to menstruate in prison. One woman says she was forced to bleed through her underwear, her pants, and finally her white blanket during an hour-long count. This piece was co-published with @theguardian.com. Please give it a read.
What It's Like to Have Your Period in Prison
Even at a women’s prison, your menstruation care needs may not be met.
