by the time any of that research pays off the kids will be adults and they can get the adult cancer cures
Thanks to Elon Musk and Donald Trump, Republicans cut $190 million for pediatric cancer research from the funding bill.

Congrats to DOGE on their first victory.

It's not unlikely that a 26yo with chronic back pain would have undiagnosed axial spondyloarthritis. These patients need an astute rheumatologist not orthopedic surgery.
I think the lesson we can all learn from this is to JUST SAY NO to spinal fusion surgery.

Actually it won't improve performance at all, if anything it will lower the bar for bad providers to scoot through until something really bad happens. The only realistic use case is to legitimize ̶o̶p̶t̶i̶m̶a̶l̶ over-billing and excuse excessive EMR fees.
This seems wrong to me — at a minimum, using AI will let below-average doctors achieve average-ish levels of performance which would be a huge win even if there are no other benefits.

Anyone can do this, it's like milk punch. You have to mix it with lemon or lime juice and strain it through cheese cloth. Then bam, $95,000 worth of clarified baby batter

Where's Nate Silver to weigh in on the priors of this
The preliminary sequence from the H5N1 human case in British Columbia has been posted and it is not good news. The virus potentially has a quasispecies at HA residue 226 (H3 numbering). This is bad news because we know that mutations at residue 226 can increase binding to human receptors. 1/
