The simple framing is that the boreal and most of the prairies were too damp to burn almost all of the time, and climate change has dried them out to the point where peak fire season now seems to be early May to end of September, with zombie fires continuing through the winter.

Did another interview where I was asked how I study disasters and stay "optimistic".
This is very confusing for me because I am not optimistic. I am extremely pessimistic.
I think people mistake my making jokes for being optimistic. The memes are a coping mechanism, guys. It's all very bad.

The hospital closest to Mathias Colomb Cree Nation, also known as Pukatawagan, is declaring a code orange, preparing for a mass casualty event. They have been trying to evacuate 2000 ppl, 12 people at a time in two 6 seater helicopters out. They waited too long to send more help.

A judge in Vermont has ordered Tufts University student Rümeysa Öztürk immediately released from ICE detention. Öztürk has been held in a notorious prison in Louisiana. She still faces the threat of deportation, apparently in retaliation for co-authoring a piece for her student newspaper about Gaza.
