cool, I had menstrual cramps so bad I was seeing spots and an ice-pick migraine and was expected to smile and be charming and think of questions to ask my parents’ dinner guests and go and throw up quietly

The simple framing is that the boreal and most of the prairies were too damp to burn almost all of the time, and climate change has dried them out to the point where peak fire season now seems to be early May to end of September, with zombie fires continuing through the winter.
