It’s hard to not see the Netflix/WB news as a sort of doomsday scenario. The constant mergers and large scale absorptions of brands might be good for business, in theory, but they are bad for art; they are bad for creators; they are bad for preservation. Which makes it bad for us.

one of the coolest things about ChatGPT is how you can actually just never use it. you can fill your whole entire life with simply not once using it. it's incredible.

It is, actually.
Is AI inherently bad? Of course not.

The question is: WHO controls it & for what purpose?

Does anyone believe that the richest people on Earth are investing hundreds of billions in AI to improve life for ordinary people, eliminate poverty & solve global warming?

I doubt it.

Streaming has made it so frustrating to know when movies are released. Frankenstein is coming to streaming soon. But it’s in theatres now! But not your theatres. Or most theatres. Just some theatres…somewhere. Go see it! If you can. But you probably can’t. #Frankenstein

Death Stranding 2
(honest question) what are the “good” video games? artistically i mean, not in a “i enjoyed this escapist slop” kind of way
Well. It's not Red Dead Redemption 2, but it's like one of three video games I'd genuinely consider good.

Man I know the whole “No true Scotsman” fallacy, I get it, but more and more I think we should be making that kind of declaration about certain folks.

One AI belief I have is that "AI art" is not just bad, it's impossible for AI to make art, even bad art. Art is something created to figuratively express what you can't communicate literally. AI doesn't feel--it is only literal input and output--so what it generates definitionally can't be art.

I know Andor isn't the answer to fascism and too many people get their politics from mega corporations' media but this scene and dialogue is truly one of the most clear and effective communications of how The Machine works and what it relies on
“The pace of oppression outstrips our ability to understand it. And that is the real trick of the Imperial thought machine. It's easier to hide behind 40 atrocities than a single incident”

Every day this line feels more and more relevant.
