Artist’s painting of an acrobatic dancer on a flake of limestone, c. 1292 - 1077 BC.

Around 3,000 years ago in ancient Egypt, artists used stone fragments for painting and drawing instead of paper sketchpads!

A magnificent #statue of a #priestess of #Isis, from the #Serapeum of #Tauromenium, today's #Taormina, from around 200 CE. The knot in her dress identifies her. She's holding a cista or container indicating that she is about to initiate a believer into the Isaic mystery cult. #AncientBluesky 🏺

Ever wondered about the fish or whale on the Penn shield? It's actually an 18th-century depiction of a dolphin! 🐬

The shield symbolizes learning with open books, the dolphin from Benjamin Franklin's coat of arms, and three "plates" (circles) from the Penn family's coat of arms.
