I often show this in my lectures to lighten the atmosphere of hopelessness and lethargy. One correction, though: cities don’t make choices. In Amsterdam, it was massive anti-car protests—and leaders in office with the will, vision, and willingness to take risks—that responded to those demands.
Remember this picture, & others like it, every time you hear someone in your city say "we're not Amsterdam."

This was #Amsterdam in the 1970s.

Many of the cities we admire made better choices regarding cars in the past. and are still making better choices today.

Better choices instead of excuses.

The ICE murders in Minneapolis are a “glimpse of what happens when fear and loathing of migrants curdles into toxic tribalism, another grim warning for all those European voters flirting with the far-right and dark forces of nationalism.”

That’s Reform in the UK.

"ICE will leave Minnesota if you hand over your voter rolls" tells you everything you need to know.

This was never about immigration or fraud. It was always about rigging elections.

The term “law enforcement” should not be used by media, except perhaps in quotations. It has sadly become an Orwellian term that is used to magically sanctify violence. Language matters. Be specific. Describe individuals with names and ranks. Say exactly what they did. Don’t repeat fascist hocum.

So important. What they say is not the story. That is never the story. What happened is the story. Write what happened.

I’ve seen too many Americans talk about how the USA used to be an example to other nations. Let me just tell you, yes it has been. It has been an example of what not to be.

Healthcare, education, law enforcement, military use, gun laws, social security etc…

But yeah you make some good movies.

Paul explains here that if he did this to a Taliban combatant in Afghanistan, after having clearly disarmed him, he would have been court-martialed and gone to jail.
Worth listening to him. He's angry. Everyone should be.
