A reminder Japan on-sells more Australian gas to other countries than is consumed on the entire East Coast of Australia.

We don't need *more* gas, we need to tax our gas exports properly

The Albanese govt is considering an East Coast gas reservation policy. And ok... but how about putting a 25% tax of gas exports so we stop giving it away for free?

Storms in the Southern Ocean are producing more rain – and the consequences could be global
The Southern Ocean is the engine room of global heat and carbon uptake – and it’s changing faster and more dramatically than we thought.

Don't you think the public has a reasonable expectation that the Commissioner of the NACC being paid well above $800,000 would consider this a full time job and not also seek to freelance outside of it?

Your choice is quite literally a bipartisan cabal of pedophilic drone-wielding genocidal oligarchs that suck each other off in depraved games of domination and blackmail, or, socialism and a habitable planet, and you're struggling with that choice?! Dafuq is wrong you?

It’s kinda amusing: ‘progressive media’ has tried for years and failed. Now it’s the turn of the federal coalition … you can’t appease the right. You will never give them enough. They don’t want to make peace, they want to destroy you. They hate you.

Dear ABC radio, please have somebody with more expertise than me explain to you why “renewables are the cheapest form of power” and “power prices have gone up in the last years in spite of increased renewables” are not contradictory statements. And why slowing renewables will not bring prices down.

CCS magick! Subsidised coal! Private mini nukes!

It's all just made up and will never even have to try and survive contact with the reality of an actual political or investment decision. But let's keep talking about it for weeks like it matters!

The electorate voted for a senate that has a majority of ALP and Greens.

Murray Watt and the ALP are choosing instead to write laws that will please the LNP and mining companies.

This is not the outcome a majority of Australians voted for.
I’m getting weary of this. This government is representative of what the people of this place want. The argument is with all of us. Turning it into a constant personalised political snipe belittles the nature of the problem.
Thanks to Murray and his ALP pals, weather reports like this will become increasingly scary and weird

Ed Husic, Labor MP, made some great points on Afternoon Briefing yesterday.

"The reason why prices are so high is because we export a phenomenal amount of gas."

We can remedy supply constraints without opening new gas projects by diverting uncontracted gas to the domestic market.

Nice piece by Julian Spector on how one of the largest American HVAC manufacturers is integrating batteries into its residential heat pumps and ACs. It's a great idea, but success depends substantially on utility regulators recognizing (and paying for) its value in avoiding poles-and-wires spending.
Legacy air-conditioning giant Carrier has a simple solution to ACs stressing the grid: Pair them with a battery that charges up when power demand is low.

Here’s how it’s testing the concept.
Carrier wants to pair batteries with air conditioners to help the grid
