Newsletter: In a media landscape dominated by algorithmic feeds that aim to manipulate and extract, sometimes the most radical thing you can do is choose to read what you want, when you want, without anyone watching over your shoulder.

Here’s how to use RSS.

I was going to post something else this week, but the structural inability of global corporations to govern platforms seems inescapably relevant.

Bad shape
The idea I keep coming back to is that the big platforms, like Dickens' Marley, were dead to begin with, and are now something particularly bad, which is dead on their feet.

I still remember reading a magazine article about HTML at a bookstore in 1995. Memorized what I could, went home, created a basic page in Notepad and opened it up in Internet Explorer 2.0. It blew my mind after my limited programming experiences with QBasic 🤯🧑‍💻
Great post about HTML being the most significant computing language ever:

"Like human language, HTML is conversational. It is remarkably adept at adapting to context. It can take a different shape on any machine, from a desktop browser or an e-reader screen to a mobile app or a screen reader"
HTML Is Actually a Programming Language. Fight Me
In fact, HTML is the most significant computing language ever developed. Underestimate it at your peril.

I picked up my first basket from Lufa Farms yesterday. They're a Montreal based service that grows some of their own produce and sources from local suppliers.

I was blown away by some of it, I received some flat-leaf parsly, boston lettuce and bok choy, which all still had the root balls attached!
All around Quebec, we deliver your basket

An interesting read on the development of a new typeface for the Paris metro:

"[a] more enduring design prioritises simplicity and functionality, drawing from fundamental shapes without excess embellishment. When usability aligns with basic human needs, design tends to stand the test of time."

Starter packs are genius, but I was surprised there wasn't a list of them for people to find.

So I built it:

The website monitors the packs being shared and adds the ones it finds to the database.

Missed your stater pack? Message me and I'll get it added.
